What we send, and to whom
Two groups receive text messages from us, and neither receives marketing. We do not buy, rent, or otherwise obtain numbers from anyone, and we never share a number with a third party.
1. People who asked us to search for their animal
Someone whose animal is missing fills in our request form. The first step of that form carries a consent checkbox, unchecked by default, which the person ticks themselves — the form submits perfectly well without it, and nothing about our service depends on agreeing.
The checkbox reads, exactly:
- I consent to receive SMS messages from Canine's Halo about my service request, scheduling, and case updates.
Directly beneath it, on the same step:
- Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, or HELP for help. We do not send messages unrelated to your case, and we never share your number.
We record the number, the moment consent was given, and a cryptographic hash of the exact wording shown, so it is always possible to establish what a given person agreed to rather than what the form says today.
Messages to this group concern only the search that person asked for: the status of their case, and alerts when a member of the public reports a possible sighting of their animal. People who use our free flyer tool without requesting a search are never enrolled and receive email only.
The form is at canineshalo.com/contact, open to anyone, with no account or sign-in required to see the consent step.
2. Our own staff and contracted pilots
Personnel give a mobile number during operational onboarding, as part of accepting an on-call role. It is a condition of that role rather than of being a customer, and it is agreed in person or in writing with an administrator — which is why there is no public form to link to, and why this page describes it instead.
Messages to this group are operational: safety and system alerts, urgent case events needing a response, and one-time passcodes for signing in to our internal console. Personnel may withdraw at any time by replying STOP, or by asking an administrator to remove the number.
Stopping messages
Reply STOP to any message and we will send no more. Reply HELP for help, or call 512-808-0246. Message frequency varies and message and data rates may apply.
Opting out of text messages does not affect your case. We will continue to reach you by email and telephone.
